Join at Village Social Habersham for facinating evening of interactive entertainment!
Author Laura Elizabeth Smith of Atlanta and The Island Mysterys, is flying in to host a Murder Mystery Dinner Event based on her play, A SPECIAL KIND OF HEARTACHE. We need a minimum of 20 participants and if we have enough interest we will host a second night on Saturday, March 14th. Tickets are available for purchase at the bottom of this event listing. Dont delay…because space is limited and this event is likely to sell out quickly!
Dinner Menu is still to be determined and will be posted on this listing closer to the event date.
Laura spent her childhood summers on Daufuskie Island, and the setting of this play takes place on a similar island. It about a group of friends who go on trip together and something happens and the mystery is solved during the evening.
The play is divided into 4 acts - people can choose to play the same character for all scenes OR others can pick up in a different scene and play that character.
Here is description of the evening by Laura…
I provide the scripts and the voting cards (the audience will vote at intermission after the third scene to see if they can guess the criminal)...then we will finish the show and reveal if they were correct. Anyone who has voted correctly will be entered into a raffle for a prize (which I provide).
The interactive show is a scaled down version of the book so that we can accommodate venues without scenery and audiences reading the script for the very first time that night.
Costumes are encouraged but not required
You do not have to read the book (and it is often more entertaining if they haven't read it) - I encourage people to make this their own story - and lean into the characters and the setting.
Before the show begins, I set the scene of the island and explain the characters and a synopsis of the story. After each scene I will briefly recap what has happened and what are some of the challenges uncovered.
The play is about 45-60 minutes - so typically the events are for about 2hours.
During the dinner, I usually speak to the audience about writing a book (especially a mystery), why I wrote these books.
Target audience - book clubs, girl’s groups, supper clubs and anyone who enjoys a light-hearted mystery - my books are cozy mysteries, where the amateur sleuth solves the crime
